We over engineer everything! Our basses are designed with 5 main categories in mind;
Aesthetics:
First off, an instrument needs to be beautiful. Our designs are unique and feature some of the highest quality, beautiful, domestic and exotic woods nature has to offer. These instruments feature magnetic continuous wood cover plates that ensure that the beauty of the natural wood is not interrupted with screws or plastic. We have built instruments using unique materials, including mammoth tusk, mammoth molar, crushed opal and Epoxy.
Durability
An instrument is, at its core, a tool that needs to stand up to the extreme wear of being played in any environment. All of our designs feature strong multi laminate necks with scarf joints that make sure the headstocks are made with the the strongest quarter sawn grain the wood hast to offer. Every neck also features carbon fiber reinforcement rods.
For our high gloss finish we use a extremely hard and durable 3 part polyester that buffs out to an amazing diamond like sheen. Our satin finishes are made using a mixture of penetrating and top coat epoxies that create a beautiful satin finish and is topped with a very hard Nano coating that is UV, Water, oil, chemical, and scratch resistant.
Comfortability
An instrument needs to feel like an extension of the player themselves. Our designs areextremely comfortable to play. You wont want to put it down. The placement of the bridge at the back of the body pushes the headstock toward the player creating an instrument that sits comfortably and feels compact even with a 34in scale length. No matter what finish the instrument features, the neck is finished with our specialty super silk finish that creates a smooth and silky surface that will never get tacky.
Our designs are also carefully engineered to be extremely light and balance perfectly, whether you play sitting down or standing with a strap. The placement of the upper horn over the 12th fret pushes the balance point towards the player. That mixed with the Ultralight tuners on the headstock make for an instrument with no neck dive that balances perfectly.
Adjustability
An instrument needs to be able to be adjusted on the fly. Working in the repair and tech side of the guitar world has taught us how annoying it can be to have an instrument that is not easily adjustable. This is why all of our designs are built to be easily adjusted at every stage. From magnetic push down cove plates that make it a cinch to get in and change batteries, to spoke wheel adjust truss rods everything about our instruments can easily be adjusted on the fly.
Innovation
An instrument needs to be unique and push boundaries. That is what we strive for at Grog Guitars. To push boundaries by finding new, cool and unique ways to make an instrument. Whether that’s by using unique materials, adding unique features, or using unique designs our goal is always to create beautiful, comfortable, and durable one of a kind instruments.
