Product description
In the shop we have a 1947 Gibson BR-4 Lap Steel with original case!
These lap steels are considered a transition guitar, as they have the "pre-war" shape but with a new-for-the-time P-90 style pickup. The body is made of mahogany while the fretboard is stained maple and is double bound, a key feature that differentiates it from the BR-3 model. Although many of the BR-4 had a script logo, this one does not, further making it a transitional piece. It also has the clear and black knobs also associated with the BR-3, but the binding makes it a 4! They had a lot going on in Kalamazoo in the late 40s!
This steel has the original tuners but the buttons had been replaced at some point.
The body of this lap steel is in great shape with tons of beautiful checking. There is some light wear to the fingerboard, but nothing that obscures note markers.
This steel includes an original case. There is no sound bar included. Tuned to C6th with S.I.T. Scotty's Lap Steel Nickel Semi-Flat Strings.
