Product description
In the shop we have a very cool 1941 Gibson L-00 in Ebony!
This guitar has had some extensive repairs done (not by us) but they were well done, and the guitar is playing incredible because of them.
As can be seen, there were two cracks that were repaired on the top. Although they weren’t cleated, they are holding great! The neck has also been reset, which is a common, but difficult repair often needed for these guitars.
Another common repair in the 20th Century was to add bolts to the bridge to keep it from lifting. Although we would prefer tech didn’t do this in the past, what’s done is done and the bridge is solidly married to the top.
The original tuners were replaced at some point, as the buttons were likely rotting off.
Cosmetically, its looks like an 85-year-old guitar. It’s been a bluegrass workhorse for years, last having been purchased at the now closed Mandolin Bros. in NYC. Various scratches and dings can be seen but not felt. There are some witness lines of arms resting, straps rubbing, hazing from crushed velvet case etc. There is one witness line on the binding on the top treble side where it had been reattached. Again, a job well done. The lower corner of the pickguard is slightly lifting.
Internally, everything looks great; All the braces are fully attached! A L.R. Baggs iBeam has been installed on the bridge plate and its jack is run out of the endpin.
The neck has a comfortable vintage U shape that edges on a C with .99” thickness at the 1st fret and 1.33 at the 12th with the heel coming in. The guitar has the original ebony nut with a width of 1.7”
This guitar weighs lbs and includes a non-original case, that is more protective than an original case but has cause some imprint and hazing on the neck. Need a better case? Let us know.
